Custom Homes Built with Integrity, Quality, and Care

Since founding Hartland Homes in 2021, the team has built more than 40 custom homes across Central Kentucky, from Munfordville to Bowling Green to Elizabethtown and throughout the I-65 corridor north and south. Every home is built to meet Kentucky building codes and guidelines and includes a one-year builder’s warranty for added peace of mind. With a custom-built home, clients have the freedom to choose the aesthetics that matter most to them—inside and out—including cabinetry, flooring, countertops, exterior siding, brick, doors, and shutters. Homeowners may bring their own floor plans and drawings or work with our Illustrative Design team to create a home that fits their vision and lifestyle. The company builds single-family homes, multi-generational homes, mother-in-law suites, shop homes and barndominiums, as well as garages and additional outbuildings—each one crafted with quality, care, and attention to detail from start to finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to build a custom home?

Building a custom home takes time, and that timeline can vary based on the size, design, and level of customization involved. On average, a custom home build typically takes 6 to 12 months from start to finish. Larger homes or more complex designs may require additional time to ensure every detail is completed correctly.

Other factors—such as permitting requirements, inspections, and local regulations—can also affect the overall schedule. At Hartland Homes, we work closely with our builders and trade partners and keep clients informed at every stage of the process. Clear communication and realistic planning help make the timeline as smooth and predictable as possible, so you always know what to expect.

Yes, changes can be made during construction, though we encourage clients to finalize as many design decisions as possible during the planning and design phase. This helps keep the project on schedule and allows for better budget control. That way, you have a clear understanding of costs before construction begins.

As a custom home builder, Hartland Homes understands that ideas can evolve. When changes are needed, we work closely with you to find practical solutions and clearly communicate any impacts on timeline or cost. Our goal is to ensure your home reflects your needs and vision—creating a space you’ll love for years to come.

The cost of a custom home varies widely—there is no one-size-fits-all price or standard cost per square foot. Pricing depends on many factors, including the size of the home, layout, materials, finishes, and the overall complexity of the design.

After an initial consultation and plan finalization, Hartland Homes provides a detailed estimate tailored to your specific project. Our transparent pricing approach helps you clearly understand the total investment and how each dollar is allocated, allowing you to make informed decisions with confidence throughout the building process.

Hartland Homes provides a one-year builders warranty (as required in Kentucky) covering workmanship and materials to ensure your new home meets our quality standards. All homes are built in accordance with Kentucky building codes and guidelines, with careful attention to structural integrity, materials, and craftsmanship.

We stand behind the quality of our work and are committed to doing things right from the start. Our warranty offers peace of mind, knowing your home was built with care and backed by a builder who takes responsibility for the homes we deliver.

Hartland Homes offers several foundation options, including basements, crawl spaces, and slab foundations, depending on your home design, property conditions, and budget. Each option has its own advantages. Basements provide additional living or storage space, crawl spaces offer accessibility for utilities, and slab foundations can be a cost-effective choice for certain layouts and sites.

Cost differences vary based on site preparation, soil conditions, square footage, and structural requirements. In addition to traditional foundations, Hartland Homes also uses ICF (Insulated Concrete Form) foundations, which offer enhanced strength, energy efficiency, and durability. During the planning process, we review your lot, design goals, and budget to help you choose the foundation option that best fits your needs while meeting all Kentucky building codes and guidelines.

Yes, Hartland Homes can include built-in or underground storm shelters as part of your home design. Storm shelters can be integrated into the home’s foundation, basement, garage, or installed as a separate underground structure, depending on your layout, site conditions, and safety preferences.

The cost of a storm shelter is not typically included in the base price of the home and is added as a custom feature. Pricing varies based on the type, size, location, and construction method of the shelter. During the design and planning phase, we review available options and provide clear pricing so you understand how a storm shelter fits into your overall home investment.

Hartland Homes builds a wide range of residential styles to fit different lifestyles and property needs. We construct single-family homes, barndominiums, shop houses, multi-generational homes, and homes with mother-in-law suites designed for extended family living or added privacy.

In addition to homes, we also build outdoor and accessory structures, including garages, storage buildings, and other outbuildings. Whether you’re planning a traditional custom home or a more unique living space, our team works with you to design and build a structure that meets your needs, follows Kentucky building codes, and is built to last.
